Workshops

Speaking & Workshops

Joseph Roberts can provide poetry workshops at all levels, for all ages and in all settings. Areas of work include places such as primary schools, secondary schools, universities, prisons, charities and many more. His core belief is that poetry can be used as a tool to make change, whether that be the world or our own lives.

“I don’t think we think enough. And if you don’t think that we don’t think enough, then I highly recommend that you think…again.” – Joseph Roberts
“Every poem is different. I could set the same task to us all yet everyone would write something completely different. This is because a poem is unique as our own genetic code.” – Joseph Roberts

He is on a lifetime endeavour to bring the power of spoken word to everyone by making it accessible, changing people’s perceptions of poetry and its capabilities. Workshops are enriching, exciting and inclusive, where visual, audial and written learning runs on a linear line.

Joseph adapts his workshops for all abilities and can also base his sessions on specific themes and ideas if requested. Tasks are creative, gripping and different every time, planting the seed in others to think for themselves, only for them to walk out the room having grown taller in their own potential. It is about character building and equipping people with the skills to question, analyse, interpret, and articulate coherently.

“A coin has two sides. A dice has six. A sentence has infinite dimensions. It can’t be flipped nor rolled, however it can be written and told.” – Joseph Roberts
Gillian StewartDeputy Headteacher at Monksdown Primary School
“He delivered a series of energetic, engaging poetry sessions to our three year 5 classes. He not only engaged and enthralled the children with his own poems but encouraged and inspired the children – some reluctant writers – to create some unique, thought-provoking pieces. We look forward to welcoming him back this academic year with another block of workshops.”
Miss Laura FerriesTeacher of English/Literacy Co-ordinator at St Bedes Catholic High School
“Joseph delivered two poetry and spoken word workshops with our students at St. Bedes (aged 11- 16). His performances left some of them literally open mouthed and the writing workshops gave them confidence and brought out their creativity.”
