Commissions

Joseph is open to commissions for projects such as promotional videos, advertisements, public street art/murals, radio and television. Spoken word can be used as another form of reaching people, by breaking down important information and making it more digestible for listeners. Organisations, charities and television channels are always keen to find new ways of connecting others with the message they want shared.

“A coin has two sides. A dice has six. A sentence has infinite dimensions. It can’t be flipped nor rolled, however it can be written and told.” – Joseph Roberts
“A writer works head down on the page. A miner works head down in a cave. You have to keep digging and digging and digging until you hit gold. You have to keep thinking and thinking and thinking until you hit gold.” – Joseph Roberts
Joseph in the past has been commissioned by Liverpool City Council and Writing On The Wall to create a piece about knife crime, with its aim to raise awareness and spread a powerful message throughout the city. The piece was called ‘X & Y’, focusing on the importance of finding ‘why’ and what we can do to stop it from reoccurring.

He was also commissioned to write a spoken word poem for BT Sport which first aired on 2nd October 2022. As part of their continued investment, focus and commitment to inclusion, BT Sport celebrated Black History Month with all-new educational, entertaining and inspiring content.

The show ‘Sport In Words’, was a 60-minute show where some of the UK’s best spoken-word artists performed pieces to a star-studded audience celebrating and honouring different black sporting legends.

“Every poem is different. I could set the same task to us all yet everyone would write something completely different. This is because a poem is unique as our own genetic code.” – Joseph Roberts
“I don’t think we think enough. And if you don’t think that we don’t think enough, then I highly recommend that you think…again.” – Joseph Roberts

Being from Liverpool, Joseph wrote his poem ‘One Common Goal’ about the Liverpool legend John Barnes, capturing his achievements and how he has overcame adversity. The show was on throughout the month on BT Sport Channels 2, 3 & 4, with his individual performance as well as others played before advertisement breaks as well as between matches of football and boxing, to promote the show as well as Black History Month.
